Today is National Gingerbread House day. I’m not sure what that means, but recently I decorated my own at 57 Chestnut in Beacon Hill. It was so much fun! I went with a group of girls from the Junior League. We had to make a reservations months in advance. It apparently is quite the tradition in the neighborhood and spots book up fast. They give you the cookie structure and a tube of frosting. You then get to pick out all the candy you want to use to decorate. They supplied some good candies, but some veterans brought their own!

I was especially proud of my pink Starburst roof trim and snow-covered bushes on the front stoop. By the end, my hands were disgusting and covered in sticky frosting.

There was no chocolate to use on the houses which was a good thing. I also made my own bloody Mary at the “Make Your Own” Bloody Mary bar. I didn’t take a picture because it looked more like a salad. I couldn’t decide which garnish to go with so I added celery, blue cheese stuffed olives, pepperoni and a pickle. It was ugly but good.

The table was a mess as well afterwards. At the end, I went to pay in cash but quickly realized I didn’t have enough so I threw down my credit card. One of the girl’s husbands announced someone had overpaid but I didn’t think anything of it. I later realized I put in the cash I had and forgot to take it out once I realized I didn’t have enough! I ended up paying about $70 for one drink and a gingerbread house. Frustrating! The houses cost typically $25 to decorate with as much candy as you want. I was glad I snagged a few extra candy canes.

This morning I uploaded a new video for Diet.com featuring Lauren Hefez and a barre workout you can do at home. My legs were shaking terribly by the end. It is a must-have in the saved vault of quick fitness videos.

For today’s giveaway, I’m giving out 3 pairs of Darn Tough socks (a perfect stocking stuffer for someone in your family or yourself), one of my “I Thought They Said Rum” T-Shirts and a fitness DVD from Jennifer Galardi “Hip Hop Body Blast” (perfect for your little sister!). I have actually been tricked into going for a run when I thought they said going for a rum… I did not get the expected result.

My favourite holiday tradition is definitely making gingerbread houses :) I’ve done one every year since I was little with my sisters. Always so much fun and I always end up with a huge mess on my hands afterwards!

Picking out my Christmas tree with my family and then bringing it home and decorating it. We always get a real tree! My dad still brings the saw and my mom gets the Christmas stuff out of the attic, we light a fire and have fun.

I have plans for a gingerbread house creation on Thursday night with my bfs family and I canNOT wait until next Tuesday when I am able to go home to see my family for Christmas! I have been a dancer my whole life and one aspect I really miss is barre exercises in ballet class. I feel they have no negative aspects: they build stamina, strength, lean muscle, and flexibility! I would love to find a workout class nearby that incorporates the ballet barre.

I LOVE Barre! My hubby is giving me a 10 class pack for Christmas :). Don’t know about other States, but it’s SO expensive in California! I took about 1 month of classes using Groupons and I must admit I could see results, so at least you get your money’s worth! Anyways, looks like I will be able to take it again maybe once a week next year thanks to my husband…yay!
My favorite holiday tradition…hard to pick since I grew up in Italy and now live in San Diego. I guess playing cards with my Italian family after the big Christmas Eve dinner would be one. Since I got married and live in the US, it’s decorating cookies and putting up the lights around the roof :)

My favorite holiday tradition is getting together with the whole family and playing white elephant! It’s always such a laugh! Especially because of some of the presents they put in the pot.

When I was younger, my momma would sign my younger brother and I up to decorate gingerbread houses @ The Ritz! I always would oooh and ahhh [and steal some candies] at the display houses and wonder why mine never looked quite as good πŸ˜› Maybe it’s because they were made by trained pastry chefs, not little kids?!

P.S. I’d love to win the shirt or socks, cute!!!

My favorite holiday tradition is cooking up a storm with my mother and her cousin who is my favorite “Aunt.” We make this traditional Indonesian dish (where they are from) that is very rarely made anymore, even over there, because it’s very time consuming to prepare. It involves taking all the bones & meat out of an uncooked chicken while leaving the skin in tact (and leaving the legs & wings alone), taking the meat off the bones and grinding it up in a food processor with some vegetables & spices, restuffing the bird with this mixture and sewing it up and baking it in the oven. When it’s done roasting, you can basically cut thru the entire bird since the main area is boneless. I love bonding with my mom and Aunt while making it though, blasting up the Christmas carols, sipping on hot cocoa while we let the bird bake.

As for Bar inspired classes, I took Physique 57 for a few years when I loved in NYC. It got me into awesome shape for my wedding in 2007. Now that I’ve moved back to Boston, I’m so glad that Bar Method has opened up as I take classes there 5x a week and I have my Physique57 DVDs for at-home workouts.

Since I don’t live with my parents in Germany anymore but in the Netherlands to study, I had to do all the christmas decorating on my own this year. Loved it and now our living room looks nice and cosy <3

My favorite tradition for Christmas is throwing our annual wine party. My husband and I started doing it when we were still just dating and started with just a handful of people. It’s always the same weekend every Dec so no one can make excuses! always a blast.
I tried a Bar workout with my sister in law in DC during the summer. It was ok, not totally impressed. I got a great stretch though.

My favorite holiday tradition is Christmas dinner with all of my extended family. It’s so fun to visit with everyone, since it’s the only time of year we really all get together. Plus the food is delicious. I’ll have to have a lot of self-control so as not to destroy all of my hard work in one sitting. I’m already planning on going on the 7 Day Slim Down the day after to prepare for New Year’s!

I’ve taken a few classes at Physique 57 (for free), Exhale Spa (3 three pack for the price of one), and Equinox offers great barre classes are part of the their regular class schedule 9at least in NYC). Barre classes are super hard, yet effective. They are torture on someone like me who has perpetually overworked quads and tight hamstrings and hips.

My favorite holiday tradition: Since it’s just my parents, sister, and I ever for Christmas, we have a relaxed “everybody’s favorite foods” meal on Christmas Day. We each get 1-2 things that we LOVE and we cook it all! It’s usually shrimp, crab legs, lasagna, mashed potatoes from Boston Market, red wine…it never goes together but it’s always delicious and a lot of fun!

How did I miss this post!!!? I’m sure I’m too late to enter the giveaway, but oh well, I’m going to tell you about Barre Method anyway!

I actually tried the Barre Method because you mentioned it somewhere that you had taken a class — I work at the public library, so I looked to see if we had any Barre DVD’s and we did! It was TOUGH! But I really liked it and I know it’s effective because I was so sore after doing it.
