Win Dick’s Cottons Sunglasses + New Salad Recipe!

December 5, 2011 · 228 comments

On the third day of fitness my blog friend gave to me, Dicks Cottons sunglasses.

DicksCottons 035

These are the brand new Mayflower Wayfarer sunglasses from Dick’s Cottons. One lucky blog reader or YouTube viewer will win these shades. The winner will be getting a preppy pair like mine, the tortoise with black lenses. This flattering frame looks good on most people’s faces. I for one have a terrible time picking out sunglasses that don’t look ridiculous on me. I fell in love with these when I saw them this past fourth of July on a friend. It was only the prototype and I had to wait over 5 months to get my hands on a pair! They retail at a reasonable $59 and are 100% UV protected.

“Mayflower Wayfarer Sunglasses – Like these tortoise wayfarer sunglasses, Mayflower Beach is one of the most popular on the Cape and versatile enough for everyone. From newborns to grandparents, from relaxers to athletes, everyone has a blast here. The tide comes in slowly, creating hundreds of mini-pools, sandbars, and waist-high water as far as the eye can see. Maybe that’s why legend has it that Christopher Columbus relaxed here and named the beach after his boat. Get to Mayflower beach early, or don’t come at all. The same could be said of these classic shades, get them early before they’re gone. For post beach fun, get ice cream at Captain Frosty’s, then pizza and beverages at the Lost Dog Pub.” DicksCottons.com

My favorite pub just so happens to be the Lost Dog, so that might be why I like these shades so much. Do you have trouble finding a flattering pair of shades? To enter, leave a comment down below. Last week, I created a new go-to favorite fall recipe based on my dinner with Ashley of Practical Cooking For One.

Kale and Brussels Sprouts Salad

PB300028

Time: Prep 20 minutes, Cooking, 15 minutes

Ingredients:

6 cups Kale, stems removed and thinly sliced

2 cups Brussels Sprouts, thinly sliced

1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 clove Garlic, chopped

1/2 tbsp Lemon juice

2 tbsp Pecorino Romano (or Parmesan Cheese)

2 tbsp Sliced Almonds, lightly toasted

1 tbsp Raisins (optional)

Directions:

In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil (or liberally spray) on medium. Add in chopped clove of garlic and sauté for about 2 minutes. Next add in Brussels Sprouts and cover for about 4 minutes. Sauté for another 5 minutes or until they begin to soften. Next, add in kale. Make sure that the kale and Brussels Sprouts are evenly distributed. Add in lemon juice, some pepper and salt to taste. Cover for another 3 minutes or until kale appears brighter and slightly wilted. Remove from heat. Add in cheese, almonds and raisins. Toss and serve.

This healthy recipe is an amazing addition to any entrée. I had for myself with a homemade turkey burger which I made in the same frying pan as the salad to reduce the amount of clean up. I also left in about a tablespoon of the salad and mashed it into the burger as it cooked. You can have this with quinoa for a vegetarian dish, grilled chicken or favorite white fish. All it needs is a hint of lemon and pepper.

I have the worst time picking out sunglasses as well, they never sit right! That salad looks super appetizing, I’m not a big brussel sprouts fan, would it be as good without them?

Yes, you just would love a little bit of the crunch though.

Reply

29 Tim Rosanelli December 5, 2011 at 5:22 pm

My light colored skin makes finding good glasses difficult because dark frames tend to make me look white. I would attempt to get a tan but I have only two shades – white and red.

Hi Sarah! I too have a difficult time picking sunglasses that flatter my frame. I always see such cute glasses and once I try them on they look hideous (haha). This is probably because I have a round face and big cheeks! Those sunglasses look SO good on you though, so maybe I’ll have to get myself a pair of those!

Reply

39 Heather December 5, 2011 at 6:38 pm

That salad looks so good!
I have never had a pair of expensive sunglasses and would love a pair. They would come in handy in the Florida sunshine. I’ve never had a hard time with sunglasses before.

Reply

40 Bridget December 5, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Super cute shades!! Yes I too have such issues picking out sunglasses!! I can go back to a store day after day and try on as many as they’ll let me and it still takes me forever to pick one!! I’d love to try these!

Reply

41 Rachel December 5, 2011 at 6:43 pm

I’m always nervous to buy sunglasses more than $20 because it’s inevitable that something always happens to my sunglasses, whether they’re sat on or thrown off a jetski :)

Reply

42 Nikki December 5, 2011 at 6:52 pm

I have the worst time picking out sunglasses…either they don’t sit right or they take up my face in an unflattering way.

Reply

43 Alex December 5, 2011 at 6:52 pm

The sunglasses are so cute! I’d love to win a pair. I recently purchased the Tone It Up plan (under your recommendation). Right now I’m working on toning up for the vacation my family is planning to Mexico! These sunglasses would look great on the beach paired with some sexy abs ;)

Reply

44 Isabella December 5, 2011 at 6:55 pm

Yes, I have a horrible time trying to find good sunglasses!! :) Either they’re too large, too small, or they’re just plain ugly. I have a small face and typically the sunglasses eat up my face. It’s hard to find good quality sunglasses that are flattering, for sure.

Reply

45 Cat Yem December 5, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Love the sunglasses on you!!! Also I am definitely trying this recipe on Saturday when my girls come over for our Christmas Get Together =) We are making healthy vegetarian dishes that are Tone It Up friendly. Will let you know how it goes!

Love the sunglasses. I always have a hard time finding big sunglasses that fit on my face right and don’t make me look like a bug lol.

Reply

55 Jes December 5, 2011 at 8:28 pm

I have the worst time finding sunglasses that flatter my face. Mostly because the sunglasses themselves are just too big for my face and end up making me look like a bug!

I’ve become even more obsessed with making salads lately (more so than usually!) and this looks great. Definitely craving that right now, haha. And I totally feel you about the sunglasses – I went years without any sunglasses just because I hated how they all looked on me! I have a pair now, but it’s mostly out of necessity since I still think it looks kind of ridiculous on me, lol. But those sunglasses look amazing!

Reply

58 Rachel December 5, 2011 at 9:30 pm

Hey! I always have the worst time finding the right glasses because they never fit on the back of my ears just right! :( I love to try new salad recipes because I get burnt out of salad very fast so it’s nice to change it up!!! :) thanks so much for sharing!

Yeah I’d love to have those glasses, right now I’m using some knockoff wayfarers. One of them is straight classic black but the plastic lenses are scratched up and they blind me in the sunlight, the other ones came from the 80s and they have like neon green frames. Those look awesome and would give me the motivation I need to start fitness blogging so I can give away cool prizes like you! :D
