ENABLING YOUR PASSION FOR HEALTHY LIVING

Thanksgiving Weekend: Plus new 6-month DietBet

I ate, I drank and now I’m dead tired. Cyber Monday must be the least productive work day on the calendar. I’m getting emails from every shopping website I’ve ever visited and lacking focus. I indulged in Thanksgiving with little regard to what I put in my mouth, feeling satisfied and in control but excited to burn it off. On Black Friday night, I took a spin class at Recycle Studio (15% off 5-10 class packages today only). It felt good to sweat. Roomie picked up two November salads from Sweetgreen for dinner before we headed out to birthday party where I had 5 glasses of wine…

Saturday started slow as a result but I forced myself to take Christina’s 11 am class at Barry’s Bootcamp. I drank a green juice from Skinny Limits and ate an open faced egg sandwich on 1/2 an Udi’s gluten free bagel with The Laughing Cow Queso Fresco & Chipotle before hand for some energy and hangover curing food. It was a perfect ass kicking class and I left craving another salad from Sweetgreen. This time I created my own. With dinner reservations at Grill 23 for dinner, I wanted to eat as healthfully during the day as possible to save up my calories.

I practiced the “1 or 2 of the 4” rule at Grill 23. “You can have 1 or 2 of the 4 but never more.” The four being bread basket, starchy side dish with dinner, alcohol and dessert. I skipped the bread basket and the starchy sides. I ordered the twin filet mignon with roasted mushrooms and cauliflower sides served family style.

I had two glasses of wine and for dessert we shared the Creme Brule. I loved every bite especially the macaroons that came with it. Shockingly, the only thing we ordered that I would not recommend were the brussels sprouts. The onions served with your steak steal the show. I have no pictures but above is our dessert taken by my friend Erica who writes my favorite Boston restaurant review blog, In and Around Town.

Sunday morning, I woke up and was planning to rest but had too much energy. I checked online to see if Recycle Studio had any spin classes for me to drop into but all had wait lists! There was room in Rich’s 11 am FlyWheel spin class so I took that and was glad I did. He plays mostly dub step music and it kept me pushing myself. I forgot about the Toque board and when I saw “SarahFit” plastered above the room, I realized I was not going to be able to “take it easy.” I’m too competitive and this is where FlyWheel excels. Not everyone opts into the Torque board but it definitely pushes you.

After class, I took a stroll through the Copley mall and discovered a juice and smoothie bar right outside Ann Taylor Loft. Who knew!? Why didn’t I know, more importantly. Thanks to my buddy Sara, I was informed that this existed but still was shocked at how amazing the menu is and why I didn’t know it existed.

So yeah, I’m working out a lot, drinking a lot and eating a lot. That’s my style and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I also get to wear a bathing suit in 10 days. I’m off to LA for work one week from today then heading down to Cabo for 2 days of “work” and 3 nights of vacation. As a result, I’m doing a 3-day Blue Print Cleanse (20% off today) later this week. I did my 1st juice cleanse with BP exactly one year ago this week! I’m thinking of skipping the nut milk and making a big soup to have for dinner. Have you tried this?

If you are interested in winning a 3-day Blue Print cleanse yourself, stay tuned to my YouTube channel as I’m featuring a giveaway next week. If you need a serious change and trying to lose 10% of body weight by summer, I have an amazing challenge for you. DietBet just introduced a longer game called the DietBet10 featuring a 6-month contest to lose 10% of your body weight.

You can sign up here and read about the extra details below. The game starts December 10th! I say in my video above that it’s December 1st but ignore me, it is in fact started December 10th and ends June 9th!

DietBet 10 (aka “The Transformer”) offers the same supportive, fun, motivating “social dieting” experience as the 4-week game. The main difference is that the goal for each player is to lose 10% of their starting weight over 6 months.

Monthly targets are as follows:

  • Month 1: Lose 3%
  • Month 2: Lose 6% (cumulative)
  • Month 3: Lose 8% (cumulative)
  • Month 4: Lose 9% (cumulative)
  • Month 5: 10% (cumulative)
  • Month 6: 10% (Maintain)
  • Final Weigh In: 10% (cumulative)

Players have the option to pay the entire bet upfront (and play one month for free as a result) or to pay their monthly bet as they go. A portion of the pot is allocated to each of the first 5 months, to be split amongst the “winners” who have met or exceeded the target goal at the end of each month.

A larger portion of the pot is allocated to the end of month 6, to be split amongst the winners who meet or exceed the 10% goal. Players are given the option to purchase Weigh In Tokens in order to submit weekly verified weigh-in photos to hold them accountable. Each week a “surprise” is awarded to one lucky player who weighed in that week. Examples include FitBits, Wireless scales, heart rate monitors, pedometers, etc.

I will be hosting a DietBet starting in January featuring the traditional 4% in 4 weeks game. Please do not sign up for the DietBet10 if you do not have 10% of your bodyweight to lose! I will not be doing it, but am sharing it with you guys because many have requested games focused on longevity and maintenance.
