While away on vacation, I found it easy to stick to my fitness routine with the help of a wake up buddy, scheduled workouts and the burden of alcohol consumption from the night before.  Here is what I did:

  • Wednesday: Tom Holland’s ACK Fit Bootcamp at Jetties Beach
  • Thursday: Interval Run – Warm up 5 mins, Sprint 4 mins, Walk 1 min (repeat 4-1 intervals 8 times)
  • Friday: Tom Holland’s ACK Fit Bootcamp at Jetties Beach
  • Saturday: Long Run for 1 hour (easy pace)

Having a schedule was the best thing I could have done for myself.  I was a little hung over on some of the days but I think getting up and working out actually helped for once.

On Friday night, Maggie and my friend Jon made a delicious seaside Mexican dish with home made fruit salsa, guacamole, and fish tacos!  I love fish tacos, especially with a tropical fruit salsa.  I was in heaven!

Sadly, I filled up on the fruit salsa.  It was made with avocado, mango, papaya, pineapple, cilantro, red onion, tomato and lime.  Soooo good!  Maggie spent probably 30 minutes just cutting up the fruit alone.  I think it was worth it.

Here is my perfectly made taco.  You can say I’m somewhat of an architect.

We also celebrated some one’s birthday!  Roomie requests funfetti every year for his birthday.  He had two bites and was satisfied.  This is why I hate naturally skinny boys, ugh.  I made him an entire cake and he only had TWO bites. My friend Brooke made some delicious homemade frosting too using real butter, confectioners sugar, milk, vanilla and sprinkles.  It was much better than straight outta the can made with lard frosting.

Roomie has never struggled with weight, obviously.  (George is not his name, but a nickname, you think I’d really give you his real name? haha)  He is the most in tune person with their hunger levels.  He stops eating when he’s full and doesn’t eat just because it’s there.  He also can drink most people I know under the table.  He likes his Budweiser, pasta and pork sausages.  If you buy chicken sausage, beware!  He is a perfect example of how you don’t have to eat very healthy but eating anything in moderation is perfectly healthy.  I obviously don’t really hate roomie, but why is it that so many of us struggle with this simple concept?  Is it the pounds of artificial sweetener I’ve had over the course of my life?  Is it my female hormones?  Is it because of women’s magazines?  I really don’t know, but I’d love to find my naturally skinny self again.

My vacation in Nantucket was everything I needed and more.  Relaxation.  Too much of good things so I can give up those good things for the next few weeks.  Sun.  Amazing weather.  Great friends.

Do you have this love hate relationship with you man or roomie?

Two Bites of Birthday Cake!? Why I Hate Men

My husband is the same, drives me crazy but he too can put back a case of beer, eat 4 plate fulls of food and still maintain a 6-pack. Plus if he misses a workout its no biggy to him, if I miss I feel like it’s the end of the world. he loves to rub it in my face how naturally toned he is… he’s a butt

    • Sarah

Thanks for sharing Kindal! I don’t feel so bad knowing there are people like us with men like them haha. However, it helps me not to eat unless I’m hungry when he is around. it’s good practice. But yes, working out or not is no big deal -- 6 pack is always there…

  • Julie @ PBFingers

wow, i feel like i am reading about my husband!! he’s the same way -- he can even eat half a cookie. whaaaaat!?!? but he is an ice cream fiend like me, so that makes me feel a little better. 🙂

    • Sarah

Ugh I wish mine loved Ice Cream -- he hates it! I always feel funny making him stop with me to get it and then he just sits and waits in the car -- aren’t I suppose to be the healthy one, I’m always thinking??? They just don’t think about the stuff like us, and they also don’t blog for a living -- looking at other bloggers yummy creations. Hope your full time blogging is going well so far!

Oh same with me too Sarah. I have to watch what I eat and workout constantly. My sister is naturally thin and always has been even though she can eat burgers and fries. And I just read your post on finding your naturally thin self. I’ll never forget the day when I went to a family party when I was 10 and this little girl asked me why I was so fat. I mean yea I was a lil chubs, but it hurt a lot, and from that day on, weight/looks has always been something I pay attn to maybe more than I should.

    • Sarah

WHAT?! At 10!? OMG, i can’t imagine you being a chubby 10 year old, but that is crazy and sad. I can empathize with knowing the exact moment. Hope you are doing well in Cali! I need a new video so come fly home maybe? 🙂 hehe

      • Cassey

Yes 10. It has scarred me for life. Haha I haven’t been filming much myself need to get back on it!!! Looks like you’re enjoying your summer on the cape so far! Lookin good Sarah, and I am excited to see what your special project is all about!

Sometimes I have impulses to force stuff my naturally thin friend’s face with butter … but then i remember that she does that on her own daily and is still thin. We’ll see when we are both older though and her metabolism slows down. Mwahahaha lol jk
I think that women like you Sarah (and myself too) have it better in the long run because we have good habits set in place already. Since staying healthy and in good shape have never come easy for us, we already know that working out, eating healthy and being aware of the kinds of foods we put in our pie holes affect our bodies and the way we look. When we are older it will be much easier to stay in shape than it will be for the ‘naturally thin’ people.

    • Sarah

Great point of view Julia. I didn’t think it that way before to be honest. I hope so too! I know roomie will probably have cholesterol issues given his family history. Your comment made me feel good about myself! 🙂

      • Viviana

I totally agree! I have naturally skinny friends stuffing their faces with nutella every day and nothing ever changes in their body! BUT I bet they are less fit than me just because they don’t work out hard enough and they eat very unhealthy. That can’t be good right? And yes, we do have the good habits in place already:D I’m still going to splurge every so often and follow the 80-20 rule (eat very healthy at least 80% of the time--when I don’t need to lose weight) and still feel good about myself! I was born and raised in Italy so even my “splurging” foods are not too bad for me anyways 😀

Some guys are naturally thin and lean but a lot of those same guys also would love to bulk up. No matter what the boy does, he can’t seem to gain weight and it definitely drives him crazy -- just the same way it drives me crazy that I can gain weight so quickly.

So don’t be too jealous of the “skinny ones” because there are tons of girls out there that would LOVE to have curves.

  • Chad

You’re not really living if you don’t take time to enjoy the little things in life, like ice cream or a piece of cake or a brownie. I know plenty of men and women who no longer splurge once in a week or month. First off I miss cake, cookies and PB&J.

I struggled (US Army told me I was 35lbs under weight) with not being able to gain weight until I hit about 25, then it became a battle to keep it off. I was actually diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease in 2009, weight loss was really easy, when I stopped eating gluten, weight fell off. My first month in a gym ever I lost 20lbs, dropping the next 20 was…..well tough. But adding 1 lb of muscle was even harder that took 4 months to see a difference. I know women don’t often see a significant gain in mass either, but as a guy its really frustrating to not gain.

Now I’m struggling, a cervical injury makes exercise almost impossible.
