I’ve been pretty excited about today’s announcement for a couple of weeks now. I was asked by DietBet to hold a challenge that will hold myself and my reader accountable for losing weight, as well as give my readers a chance to win actual money like on The Biggest Loser.


Here is the deal. You add $15 to the pot. If you lose 4% of your weight in 4 weeks, you get your $15 back. If everyone reaches the goal, everyone gets their money back. If some people slack off and give up half way through, then the people who reach the 4% goal, split the pot.

You’re probably wondering how people don’t cheat at this point, right?

To verify weight loss, DietBet requires you to upload photos of yourself and your scale at the start and again at the end of the game. Your actual weight it kept private unless you choose not to. I’ll be posting my stats because it’s the only way I’ll actually keep myself accountable.

The best part? It works: 84% of players lose over 4 pounds in 4 weeks. And winners lose, on average, over 8 pounds in 4 weeks. Wouldn’t you be psyched to lose 8 pounds and get paid to do it?
The goal is manageable: just 4% in 4 weeks. So, for example, if you weigh 200lbs, you’ve got to drop 2 pounds a week for 4 weeks. Do that and you’ll win money. Since it’s not winner-take-all, it doesn’t matter if someone else gets to the finish line first or ends up losing more than 4%. (There’s no “extra credit” for exceeding your goal.)

My sister’s wedding is exactly one month from today and I am the maid of honor. While I’ve had a blast for the first part of the summer, my 5 vanity pounds have definitely crept back on and I’m looking to lose them for the big date.
