This morning, I stopped into Whole Foods for a fresh juice made of cucumber, celery, beet, ginger, kale and lemon. It was delicious and a perfect little treat for my drive down to Newport for a workout at Equinox.
The Oakley HQ are based down in Orange Country, CA so I made plans to meet up with my buddy Megan who initially invited me to be an ambassador after seeing me Instagram wearing a pair of sunglasses on Runyon Canyon. We decided to try out a Barre Bootcamp class at the Irvine Equinox which used to a Sports Club/LA and still looks exactly like one.
The class was the most lotte burke inspired big box gym barre class I have ever taken. There was even a bar attached to one of the mirrors! Arden, the instructor did a great job encouraging and challenging the class. I was sweaty and I think my flutes are going to be sore tomorrow. We started with an arm series including a 10 lb ketllebell upright row with a wide second squat. After a serious but feasible push up series, we moved into trice dips and then went over to the bar. The class wasn’t as structured as a Bar Method class, but I enjoyed the variety and would totally go back if the Equinox in Boston had it. I liked it better than Barre Burn to be honest. It got my heart rate up a bit more but stayed true to the classic barre moves, including back dancing for the last 5 minutes of class. Afterwards, Megan and I headed to the Oakley HQ for a quick tour.
The Oakley employees have access to an incredibly discounted store so I picked up a new pair of prescription glasses and beach cover up that I’ll post next month when I wear it on vacation! Thanks to those of you that helped me pick the right pair on Instagram. You guys chose the ones I liked best too!
I’m thinking of trying Core Power tomorrow. Have you ever been to a class there? For dinner tonight, my college roomie Cher is taking me to True Foods Cafe. I’m so excited. I didn’t tell her that I’ve already been before but last time, i knew this was a place I needed to visit again, and again, and again. So excited.
Those glasses are adorable!
Ahh!! Back in CA 🙂 I was a member of CorePower for a long time before I joined my current gym that I am obsessed with! The next time you’re in town you should cruise down to SD for a workout @ Performance360 -- it’s my favorite!! But back to CP, I also loved it -- the YogaSculpt and Yoga-Pilates were my favorite classes! Have a great visit!
Core power is the best! Enjoy!
I love Corepower! Yoga-pilates is my favorite, but you can’t go wrong with a good C2 class.
Sarah, you definitely rock those glasses girl! Cute! Cute! Cute! We can see you’re having fun!! Can’t wait to read and see more pics!!
That equinox is by my office! I work in those black buildings by Google! Cute glasses!
I did CP for 7weeks on a groupon (quite expensive otherwise ) and loved it although I feel it’s more of a yoga workout so it doesn’t focus as much on meditation. I also love true foods kitchen! If you are in the Newport area I also suggest greenleaf gourmet chopshop in Costa mesa.
Which Core Power?!?!? The one on Wilshire is amazing and has a ton of great teachers.. I think the best class depends on the teacher.
Sculpt is awesome if you have never incorporated weights into your yoga practice. Also yoga pilates if thats available -- grab the black circle!
C2 is classic and always great. Fast flows. HPF is slower and a lot more holding positions, kind of like a bikram class.
I went to the one in Costa Mesa with Lacey -- who is also an Oakley Ambassador. It was amazing 🙂 Will post about it later!
Loved reading about the different classes in LA. I need to go out there! I wish the scene around Boston and the suburbs had more of an earthy, healthy feel, but I think we’re getting there. I’ve recently trie barre n9ne studio in Andover, but there’s one in Danvers, too. Loved it 🙂 Legs are still shaking from it!
