*The 7 lbs were a combination of water, stored carbs and fat.
Many of you know that I was eating clean last week in preparation for a photoshoot. I successfully got down to what I was hoping for and felt amazing. It should be noted, that I did not lose 7 lbs of fat, but it was a combination of water weight and stored glucose, in addition to hopefully some fat. This type of dieting is useful for events because it’s not a lifestyle change, it’s a temporary one that would drive a normal person crazy if they had to eat like this all the time.
So how did I do it exactly?
First, I drank a gallon of water for the first 4 days. I reduced my sodium drastically then cut down the water the last 3 days to 1/2 gallon, then a 1/4 gallon to as little as possible. The reason for this is to reduce the water retention in your skin so you can see your muscle definition on camera better. It is a temporary thing, and I only do it for shoots like this.
I only ate starchy carbs in the morning by having steel cut oatmeal with cinnamon and stevia, with a flax/chia seed blend. I would have a small apple for a snack with either laughing cow cheese, egg whites, or almonds.
For lunch I had a salad consisting of lettuce with cucumber, onion, mushrooms, tomatoes, and ground turkey which I seasoned with pepper, cumin, garlic powder, paprika and dijon mustard. I added some balsamic vinegar as well to the salad greens. If I was still hungry, I would snack on carrots, celery or have a few almonds (raw unsalted).
I would have a protein shake for a snack later in the day with almond milk (which has sodium in it but I didn’t realize this until Day 6.
For dinner, it was white flakey fish or chicken with lemon and pepper with either lots of veggies like broccoli, brussels sprouts or acorn squash. Dessert was peppermint tea with almond milk and stevia and the occasional mini candy cane. I have a sweet tooth what can I say.
As far as exercise, I did spinning twice, ran twice and did 1 yoga class and 1 strength class. This is pretty standard minus the spinning for me. I like the spinning because it’s indoors and I would sweat a lot.
Now I just have to wait and see if I am included in the magazine article I took the pictures for!
