ENABLING YOUR PASSION FOR HEALTHY LIVING

Fashion That Flatters

First off, congrats to my Red Sox. I’m in LA and disappointed I wasn’t home to see them win, but tonight I get to go Trick or Treating with my 4 year old nephew so I’m over it already. Happy Halloween. Today’s post is a little different from my usual health and fitness talk. It’s something I’m trying to learn more about, fashion!

Remember when skinny jeans first came into fashion? I never thought I would be able to pull them off. I thought the emphasis on my strongest body part, my thighs, would make this the most unflattering trend to descend upon fit girls everywhere. I wore them with boots the first few seasons and now I’m wearing them with flats so either my self confidence has sky rocketed or they aren’t as unflattering as I thought. Thankfully, there are few new trends that you should embrace that will help build your self-confidence as they are slimming and flaunt your favorite assets.

I am not a fashionista. I am never the first to embrace a new silhouette mainly because my main squeeze doesn’t understand them and finds most ridiculous looking. Girls dress for girls when it comes to high fashion. I’m not high fashion so I dress for what looks good on my body. These looks look good on and not just in magazines this month.

Peplum

This trend has been around for a season or two and was Vogue’s gift to love handles everywhere. It’s also flattering for thin frames. The extra material starts at your waist or hip line. While one helps define your waist, the other helps create an hourglass figure. I love this Alice & Olivia Victoria Peplum dress. If you prefer to be the leader of the pack when it comes to fashion, try a mixed fabric top featuring leatherette peplum.

Soft, Silky & Sophisticated Tops

The understated, flowy top that looks killer with a statement necklace is a wardrobe staple. However, many are very oversized in the waist area creating the possible mixup for a maternity top. I own this Splendid top below in white and not only is it the most comfortable top I own, but it’s also extremely flattering. The soft fabric gently drapes over your shoulders to show off strong shoulders despite being covered. The torso grazes your silhouette without clinging as it’s a woven material. The back is made of Splendid’s softest cotton. If you want a more comfortable top, you might need to wear your pajamas… oh wait, that’s actually becoming in style?!

A Flattering Military Coat with Cinched Waist

While yes it seems like many people have already hopped on the military trend, this lighter weight jacket may not be a practical buy for those of us living in the North East but this military style drawstring waist jacket reveals your curves rather than hides them. This jacket is perfect for layering with a bright scarf and plaid button down. You don’t have to look like Randy from A Christmas Story when keeping warm. This look is casual cool and with lots of pockets, you have plenty of places to put your necessities and possible go with a purse to the game! Some NFL stadiums are only allows clear plastic bags this season, yes like zip-lock. I love this Lily Aldridge for Velvet Ruby Jacket.

If you’re planning to go Trick or Treating tonight, don’t forget to fit in a workout today to offset the extra calories and indulge guilt free. I hate the word guilt to be honest, but exercising on food holidays is always a good thing and Sarah Fit recommended.
