I’m Going Back To School!

I’m excited to share with you guys that in January I am starting classes with the Institution of Integrated Nutrition (IIN). I signed up on Black Friday after talking with Brittany (Eating Bird Food), Kendall (On an Inhale), and Rebecca, the owner of The Ripe Stuff.  All are graduates of the program. After announcing on Twitter that it was official, I found a few more graduates in the blog world like Jess who I ran Reach The Beach with.

Why did I sign up?

When I first started making YouTube videos, I knew fitness was something I felt passionately about so I got certified to be a personal trainer. I have realized however that when it comes to losing weight, it really is all about your diet. Exercise has many amazing benefits on it’s own, but if you are just doing it to lose weight and don’t eat right, you are never going to reach your goal weight. Not everyone likes to exercise, but everyone except for Jada Pinkett Smith enjoys food.

In college, I wanted to change my major to nutrition sophomore year. I took one class in chemistry and realized studying to be a TV reporter was much more interesting (and easier hah). I opted to enroll in IIN because I didn’t have to take the GRE, and I can take the classes online with local study groups. I also don’t agree with the FDA on many levels so to pay thousands of dollars to learn a plan I was not going to recommend seemed stupid. IIN focuses on many different dietary lifestyles like vegan, paleo, gluten-free, low carb, raw, etc. Their approach recognizes that not one size fits all. The courses show you how to coach clients towards living a healthier lifestyle. It also includes lessons that show you how to build and grow your business. I need this badly.

I may or may not coach clients using the information I learn but I like knowing I have the option. I’m most excited to share the knowledge in my YouTube videos to provide better content!

It’s only December 8th but I already 2 challenges for 2013, my first Sprint Triathlon on June 30th and going back to “school”. I’m very excited for what’s to come!

Congrats on signing up Sarah! I’m currently in IIN now and am really loving the program. It’s a great compliment to my nutrition degree because it’s a much more holistic approach. Best of luck with the program and feel free to reach out if you have questions 🙂

Good for You! I’ve looked into this program several times but just haven’t pulled the trigger! I still get the emails in my inbox and know it’s a great program. My time is so limited -- I haven’t committed. I can’t wait to hear what you think!

    Hey Sarah-

I have been reading your blog for awhile now. I wanted to know if you could help me. I have never been seriously overweight but have lost about 15 lbs and have kept it off for six years. I REALLY want to lose the last five. YES, I have checked in with myself and decided it is necessary. However, I need help. I have looked at your plans but do you suggest any tweeks for the last five? I need a plan!

    Thanks!
    -Amy

Hi Amy, I highly recommend the cooler 1 plan from the Eat Clean Diet Recharged or the Tone It Up diet plan which I sell on here -- there is a link in the left hand column. It takes cutting out alcohol, sweets and carbs at night for me. Everyone is different however. Good luck!

    Sarah,

I am super interested in this! Could you email me the information as well?

I have spent the past 2 years researching graduate school, MBAs and studying for the GMAT. But, my heart is not in business school. It’s in wellness and coaching! I know one of the best ways to have credibility is working towards some certifications.

    xo, Jessica

    Hey Sarah!

I would love to learn more about this, b/c I have also been considering going back to school for nutrition. I currently have an MBA but it’s not giving me the “thrill” that I am looking for in life, and I think going back for something i’m actually passionate about will be the lift I need.

    Thanks!

I just wanted to say thank you for posting this! I’ve wanted to be a nutritionist for so long but didn’t have the money to go to a university so I feel like this is the perfect solution. I literally signed up right after I read this post and I’m so excited to be able to go to nutrition school. Thanks so much!!

Hi Sarah! I was wondering how the schooling was going at IIN? I have heard about this school before and was thinking about attending however I like knowing that someone like yourself thinks its a good school to attend. I requested information from IIN but was curious if you had any advice or opinions about it. I currently am a stay at home mom but my kids are getting older, career wise are you familiar with what a person can do with such a certificate from IIN?

Thanks so much, I love your blog!
