Ok, I will be honest. I did not expect to like Cancun as much as I do! Not only is it a really quick flight from Boston (there are tons of non stop options), but most resorts are within a half hour from the airport. As some one who travels a ton, this is a huge bonus. Getting through the airport was quite easy and our hotel shuttle was waiting for us when we arrived. I think it took us a total of an hour from landing to arriving at the JW Marriott thanks to a swift experience through customs.
Yesterday was spent shooting two videos at the JW Marriott Resort and Spa and two videos at the CasaMagna Marriot Resort. First was a workout video at 8 am. It was hot and despite the routine only lasting 12 minutes, I was a sweaty mess by the end.
We shot in the gym, the pool, the ocean, the bar and the Beachwalk Restaurant, which I’m obsessed with! I was exhausted by the end and room service for dinner.
I woke up to the sun shining in my face, just the way I like it at 7:30 this morning. I put on my workout clothes and headed out the front door of the hotel for a nice long run.
I’ve only been to Mexico 3 times prior to this visit, but Cancun is the first city that I have been able to actually get in a good run. The side walks are runner friendly, I felt totally safe the entire time because you are passing by large hotels and plenty of traffic, plus the resort stretch is over 6 miles long. In Playa Del Carmen and Cabo, I ran in circles on the resort campuses (I visited Acapulco in college on Spring Break, there was no running, just drinking). Once I started running, I realized it was too hot to do a normal workout so I modified my planned run. Here is my interval workout that you can do this summer when it is hot as balls outside and your body is like, why are we doing this again?!

After my run, I hit up the Sedona Grill breakfast buffet. I ordered a veggie omelet and topping it with guacamole and salsa. I also grabbed an english muffin, slice of bacon and lots of fresh fruit. They had mangos on Tuesday and I must admit, I was bummed to not see them today. I could eat my weight in mangos so they probably hid them from me on purpose.
The fruit tasted fresh and the salsa + guac + eggs combo is addicting. I’m sad that our flight is too early to enjoy the buffet tomorrow. After breakfast, I went over the menus at a few of the resort restaurants picking out my healthy favorites and offering suggestions to include more healthy options. There will be a Sarah Fit insert at the resorts I’m visiting with my top picks plus creations!
After that, it was time to relax and do some work remotely by the beach.
Around 1pm, clouds began to roll in so I headed to the Beachwalk restaurant for lunch. During the menu review, the chef said his crab cake was made without breadcrumbs or mayo. In fact, it wasn’t even fried but lightly seared. I had to try it and was shocked to discover how delicious it really was!
I also ordered a salad for some greens but to be honest, the crab cake had 4 oz of crab in it and I was almost too full to eat my greens – but I did my best.
I’ve got a massage coming up and then it’s time to pack up and get ready to leave. Our flight is scheduled for 6am in the morning which means we have to leave our hotel at 4am! We are heading to the Grand Cayman and since there are no direct flights, we have to fly all the way to Miami first. If you were to look at a map, you would realize how silly this is… but alas, not many people go from Cancun to Grand Cayman.
