I’m lucky that I enjoy how most healthy foods taste but there are a few that I detest. One of them is turmeric. Unfortunately for me, it is traditionally used by breastfeeding women.
One of my favorite ways to mask the flavor of turmeric is in smoothies.
I created this smoothie recipe to help nourish new and nursing moms. which is why I included turmeric. I take New Chapter’s Perfect Postnatal Multivitamin which is a whole-food fermented multivitamin with nutrients for energy, mood and lactation support*.
It is specifically formulated to support breastfeeding women including whole-food fermented iron, Vitamin B6, Iodine from Kelp and Vitamin D3*. It also includes a postnatal herbal blend including organic oat, organic chamomile and organic lavender in addition to organic turmeric. I take it on an empty stomach usually first thing in the morning.
This smoothie is made with sesame seeds (Tahini) and oats, which are both good sources of iron. Iron is required for red blood cell production.
The ingredients were specifically chosen to help nourish new moms.
The Body Nourishing Mama Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 1 tbsp Tahini
- 2 large pitted Medjool dates, softened
- 1 Small Frozen Banana
- 1/2 cup Frozen Mango
- 1/4 cup Old Fashioned or Quick Cooking Oats
- 1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
- 1/2 cup Ice
Combine all the ingredients in a blender until smooth and enjoy!
Making this smoothie will help you feel full and taste delicious. You can’t even taste the turmeric.
It’s hard to sit down and eat a meal as a breastfeeding mother. I also was constantly overheated so smoothies were my go to snack and breakfast.
