Last week, I was greeted with a new Tone It Up diet plan in my inbox from Katrina and Karena. The entire plan has been revamped and includes 50 new recipes and an extensive goal achieving program. I wrote a review and fell in love with the plan a few years ago when I used the 7 day slim down to lose a few pounds for one of my very first photo shoots in 2010. Full disclosure, you guys know that Katrina and I have been friends since 2006 but I only support the plan because it rocks and is something I personally use myself.
What I love about the new plan is that it is so user friendly to read, follow and implement. The pictures are absolutely amazing. The girls say they reflect a “sun kissed” feel and they really do. All the images seem to have that so-cal photo filter that makes you wanna move to Manhattan Beach to be their neighbor. It reads like a diet book. It’s quick to soak in so you can get started right away. There is a ton of variety and options for your favorite smoothies and pancakes.
On top of the plan, they include some great nutrition education so that you can use to make decisions on your own in the real world. They break down what nutrients their favorite foods are high in so if you have a deficiency you can adjust.
Since I have reviewed the plan before I’ll keep this review to what is new and good. The recipe section features a slew of new raw, vegan, gluten free and soy free options. With my Integrative Nutrition courses, I’ve modified my diet to eat more vegetarian and non GMO meals so this was a welcome addition to my growing needs.
They also expanded the 7 day slim down a bit, a program that is incredible if you do it before an event. Celebs do this for their big red carpet nights, why shouldn’t you for your wedding?
I also love the new section dedicated to achieving goals. I am planned to start my own inspiration board this week and will share it with you guys when I’m done.
My favorite part is that the recipes include a new graphic that helps you decide what meals are good for what meal. The TIU plan is based on 5 small meals. Many meals are perfect for more than one meal, but the guide is really helpful. They also divide the recipes into 3 categories so that people looking to lose, tone or maintain can get a little extra guidance in knowing which recipes are best for them. If you are thinking of buying the plan, check out their amazing testimonials. They are incredibly inspirational. Even I was moved to get started on a new health kick after reading the whole thing!
Here are the other additions to the plan:

If you are a Sarah Fit reader and TIU member, let me know down below 🙂 If you purchased the plan and were not satisfied also let me know below. I honestly have never had a reader tell me that they were not so I’m curious if you exist!
I am a Sarahfit reader and TIU girl! I found TIU through your blog and started a month ago and I’ve had great results. I’m down 12lbs and I have started to see changes everywhere. I also FEEL better since I am eating less processed food which is amazing!
Woohoo! Love it 🙂 Congrats!!!
I haven’t checked it out yet…I’ll have to check my email! SO excited 🙂
It sometimes goes to Spam so if you don’t see it, check it out there too!
Devoted Tone It Up and Sarahfit girl! Love you both! Thank you for the great review!
I’ve been a long time Sarah for reader which is how I found the TIU blog two years ago.. Bought the nutrition plan a couple months ago as LOVE IT: k&k rock!
Bought the plan in 2011 through your website and have been a TIU girl ever since! I made friends through the community and got inspired to become a group fitness instructor: ) it’s a work in progress, but I’ll get there! love the new plan and I think it’s great because it’s a lifestyle, not a diet. Thanks Sarah for making me discover it!keep up the great work and I hope we can meet in person on your next trip to California.
I am a TIU girl and I am in love with their new plan! It is amazing! I also love your blog 🙂
Thanks Tiffany. I love my fellow tiu members 🙂
Same here I found out about them over your blog and loved them right away (just like your blog). I purchased the plan 6 months later and I’m loving it! I didn’t had much progress scale wise but I’m definately more active and building musles. And I’m a lot more aware of what I eat. I love the update and gonna set some new goals and do a vision board as soon as I’m done with my finals in 4 weeks!
I want this book 🙂
I really would LOVE to get the TIU Nutrition Plan, but I simply cannot justify the cost. I know it’s worth it — I’ve heard rave reviews. But I just don’t have the income to pay for it. I have a very, very strict budget and unfortunately I don’t forsee paying the money for it. It’s great that once you pay you get all the revisions, that’s totally worth it, but I just can’t pay that much! I wish they offered just one revision for a more reasonable price.
i can’t justify the cost either. that seems like a lot of money for… a glorified cook book?? maybe i would more seriously consider buying it if i could skim the pages and see what i was paying for, but just to blindly hand over that kind of money makes me a little uneasy.
I believe that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to diets. I understand totally your hesitation. If you struggle with motivation and inspiration (which I do when it comes to eating in moderation), the TIU plan is better than a book because the constant group support and emails help you stay inspired. That is the difference. You can’t think of the price tag as the cost of a book because it’s not. It’s like a membership initiation fee that doesn’t stop giving. BUT that being said, it’s not for everyone.
makes total sense now… you may have even convinced me! maybe i’ll make it a gift to myself 🙂
I too struggled with the cost, so that’s what I did I bought the plan as a gift to myself! I’m happy with the plan, it got me out of a weight plateau that I was in.
Plus, don’t you have to print the book out yourself? I can’t understand a price like that when you also have to supply your own resources, printer ink isn’t cheap! 🙂 My photos won’t look so ‘sun-kissed’ after it’s printed with my black and white printer. 🙁
That isn’t meant to be taken badly though of course! I use their YouTube videos regularly (as with yours, Sarah!) and they are totally inspirational; I’m just not at a point where I can justify spending that amount of money. Ever since I found their website I have wanted to buy the plan, but for now I’ll just stick to the free updates. Thanks for the review though, Sarah. It definitely makes me itch a little more! 😀
I bought TIU for my wedding last year. it is an amazing plan!!!!! <3 it
I think I initially found your Youtube channel from when Karena, Katrina, Cassey, and you were hanging out and all did videos together on each other’s channels. I’m not a TIU member yet so I guess I can only say I’m a Sarah Fit reader for now. 🙂 Hoping to become a TIU member in the future so I can join the community.
I’m pretty sure you can join the community without buying the plan. Give it a try!
Yes, you can join the community and get weekly workouts WITH OUT having to buy the nutrition plan. There are also recipes in the community. Some of the community is reserved for Plan Purchasers, but if you need motivation or some sense of accountability, the community is great. I am new to the community myself, but I am enjoying and utilizing it the best I can until I decide to splurge on the nutrition plan.
I am a Sarah Fit reader and became a TIU member through your awesome reviews of the protein pancake and checking out the TIU website. I love the TIU spirit and how welcoming, inclusive, motivating and helpful Katrina and Karena are. Needless, to say, I think that you are phenomenal Sarah! I’ve been very happy with the TIU community and my purchase of the diet plan in Dec 2011. This was soon after you featured a giveaway of a TIU. Thank you so much for introducing me to a product that has taught me so much about nutrition and living a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
I love your blog and love TIU! I only started following the Nutrition Plan 2 weeks ago so It was an extra treat to get the new version so soon 🙂 as a vegan, the new options are awesome!
I just recently signed up to the Tone It Up Plan and Community, and I absolutely love it!!! I even created my vision board and everything… you can see it here! http://fearlessfoodandfitness.wordpress.com/2013/05/31/diy-inspiration-boards-and-goal-setting/
I think the new edition is awesome. I feel like they organized the information so much better, and they totally did give it that so-cal vibe with the pictures, colors and the fonts. I’m obsessed!
I actually signed up for Tone It Up about a year ago after reading your review of the plan the first time around. I LOVE Karena and Katrina, and I absolutely believe you get your money’s worth times a million with all the content they put out on a regular basis. I love everything about Tone It Up, and I’m glad I followed your recommendation!
Hi sara,
I read your review from 2 years ago about how you combined the tiu and eat clean diet stripped. How would these nutrition plans compare? I’m in the middle of reading the stripped version, but am really interested in tiu. Also, since the new edition of tiu came out, are they still giving out the past edition if we sign up later on down the road? Love your blog btw 🙂
Im a SarahFit reader and TIU girl. It was actually on your video with them in LA that I became aware of the nutrition plan. I love it. The recipes are delicious, the workouts amazing and I’m learning how to eat clean. Lost a respectable 4 lb this month. Just bought their DVDs and the perfect fit protein powder. Excited for the next month.
I love to watch your youtube channel and have a question about the TIU plan. All TIU members are free to answer! I am interested in purchasing the plan but want to make sure it is the right thing before I do. I have about 150lbs to lose. Is this plan right for someone looking to lose this much weight? I have read reviews but have yet to come across somebody that had or has as much weight to lose. Thanks in advance!
Theresa
Honestly, the plan is perfect for anyone with any amount of weight to lose. It’s not as intense as you are thinking. It is not a calorie counting plan. It encourages you to eat the foods you love and move more. I really think you will love it.
Thank you so much for replying 🙂 I think with all I have seen and what you have said I will be purchasing the plan by the end of the month!! I am so excited to start! Thanks again for everything!!!!!
I want to try it out so bad, but I dont know if my weight loss goals would be a good match for this plan. I am 5’2 and over 200 lb. I’ve tried so many gimics that I’m not sure if I want to invest. Is it actually worth it for my goal of losing 70+ pounds?
Im buying the plan tomorrow 🙂 im 17 and really tiny (im only 5’2”) I want the plan so i can tone up but i also want to eat healthier. My concern is that im very skinny and want to gain a few pounds. I wonder if the nutrition plan and exercise routines they have will help me achieve that.
What interests me in books and plans are the recipes. So a book having a number of healthy and yummy recipes is one good book for me.
Can someone explain to me the main differences between the gluten free and regular plans? Like, do they eliminate gluten free breads and pastas and focus on veggies, etc? I am debating between the two.
To be honest, the regular plan does not have a ton of gluten products. If you have celiac, sure get the gluten free one, but if you just avoid gluten for dietary preference, the regular one you will find is fine as most of the recipes are gluten free naturally. Hope this helps!
That does help tremendously! Thanks for the input!!
Hi! I’m a SarahFit fan and became aware of TIU because of your YouTube videos. 🙂 I’m also wondering about which plan to purchase. Does the regular program offer any kind of vegetarian substitutions in the recipes? I’m not a true vegetarian by any stretch--but I don’t eat red meat, avoid processed foods, and also eat a lot of soy-based and vegetarian dishes. I’m overweight and also have vasculitis (which I think is largely caused by my obesity and inflammatory foods). Hmmm…just trying to figure out which plan would be best for me. Thanks for any advice. 😉
I am actually very disappointed with what I got for $150 it’s no better than free Blogilates website or eating bird food website
I respect TIU and I bought the plan over a year ago. It helped me to eat clean but I definitely think its not worth 150 $ !! AND you have to print out the thing yourself!!!! Ridiculous. I no longer do their workouts cause they are not challenging and very very repetitive. Everything they sell is ridiculously priced- even their shipping! Save your money please!!
I wish I saw Isabella’s comment b4 I bought it…
I just purchased their plan and, though I’m not totally finished reading through it, I’m obsessed! Motivation-wise, they’ve gotten me super excited again about HEALTH. And that truly is priceless. <3
I have a QUESTION! I am in love with the girls, and the workouts are amazing. I want to buy the nutrition plan, but does it come with the workouts from the dvd’s? What workouts does it include? Is it really worth it for someone who already eats well?
Only if u have a spare $150 laying around. If ur into being healthy and nutritious then don’t pay them to tell u what you already know. The plan is pretty much all over their website for free. There’s not really any dif Btwn payers and non payers info. The DVDs u have to purchase. They are the same pretty much. Either buy beach babe 2 or use the free workouts on their website 🙂
I’m considering doing the meal plan as well -- although I’m a bit hesitant for two reasons 1- I don’t have an extra $150 lying around) and 2- I’ve done Jackie Warner’s “This is why your fat and how to get skinny again” meal plan and it worked for me last year (I’m back to square one after the holidays though). Anyway, right now I’m tracking my meals/calories/nutrition on the myfitnesspal app and committed to the Love Your Body Challenge from Tone It Up. My question is, I currently do eat meat, but stay away from dairy (as it irritates my skin), which plan should I go with? The regular plan or the vegan plan and just sub in lean meats?
Thanks! 🙂
hey, good review! I’ve been thinking about buying the plan for a while, but I know I’m an emotional eater… I’ve tried so many other diets, to no avail! So I’m not sure if it’s worth it, but I rly want it:)
I just joined TIU this summer and remembered that you had mentioned it in the past. It was fun to go back and find all of your posts about TIU. I have to say, I LOVE IT. Haven’t seen any negative reviews yet! Love your site also!! Especially for workouts. Thank you!
Hello,
Just a question. Ive been debating if I am going to get the plan or not since its pretty pricey considering that I don’t know whats in it. I have a few questions and hoping you can answer:
1) bootycall workouts-- does this involve the gym? or do we have to wake up each morning and do them? just because I go to work from 6-5. can we workout at night then? does it matter/
2) do they give you a strict sched like for the first month for the week..this is what you should eat et or you can mix and match?
3) was it easy to shop for the ingredients and easy to do?
They are coming out with a book actually. I don’t know if it will be drastically different or not but bootycall doesn’t involve a gym. They do not give a strict schedule and some ingredients are hard to get like coconut palm sugar but once you have them, they last a while and can be ordered online. They have substitutions for everything too!
