Wow. I didn’t realize how much of a tired person I could look like these days. Talk about bags under the eyes! Tommy is waking up at 5 or 6 am and it has taken a toll on me this week.
While at first this looks like a super awkward photo, and it is, it’s me stretching actually. I’ve been dedicated to working out but have not been taking Yoga at all like I used to. In case you haven’t birthed a child, I’ll let you in a little secret…
Things are not the same even if they appear so on the outside.
I have taken a couple of yoga classes this past year but have not gone regularly like I used to, which was once a week, because I’m self conscious of body functions that I can’t control. You get my drift? Pun sort of intended… Part of my non-resolution New Year’s Resolution was to get back into a good stretching or yoga routine, even if I just do the moves at home. I’m not ready to go back into the studio, yet.
While marathon training, I would always feel an insatiable need for yoga. My hips were just the worst! They were tight, achey and just needed a lot of attention. These days, I spin and do HIIT workouts but don’t want the 90-minute vinyasa practice. I’m still super tight but just don’t want to dedicate the time to yoga. In the photo above, my knees should both be touching ankles. Hah!
Each day, I have made it a priority to get a couple of stretches in while playing with Tommy or during his nap time. It takes only a few minutes. I love this stretch below that I first learned during my Bar Method obsession. It kills my hip flexors which obviously means it’s awesome.
I focus on my lower back, hip flexors, and hips. I’ve been rocking the mom uniform lately which consists of leggings and oversized tops so I have no excuse not to fit them in.
These leggings are by Danskin Now, which is available exclusively at Walmart. We needed a sled for Tommy, I bought leggings. It happens.
The top is also by Danksin Now and was less than $10. The pants were less than $20 if you’re curious, too. I’m having trouble locating the exact legging on the site but I brought them in store this past Sunday so they likely are in your store too. I’m wearing a size small, and I love how the waist band comes up high above my belly button.
My other “resolution” was to hire more babysitters for quality Nick time and work. It’s hard to get in the mindset that I can’t do it by myself. I’ve struggled with the idea that I need help since Tommy was born. I don’t know why.
I’ve been good about stretching and just this week, my sister’s sister-in-law babysat Tommy so we could go to the Celtic’s game. My 2017 is off to a good start, resolution wise at least 😉
