It’s official. I am registered to run the Chicago Marathon. My friend Jess, over at Race Pace Wellness, is going to be coaching me through the next 17 weeks of training. On Saturday, I was scheduled to run 12 miles and was excited that I had the lovely Pacific ocean to look at the entire time. I took this picture at the half way point and felt great.
I ate my Clif energy shot gel immediately after and felt great all the way to the end. I took off my shoes and walked into the ocean to “ice” my legs to reduce inflammation and any potential soreness. It felt great, wasn’t that cold but totally did the job.
After my run, I drove down to Manhattan Beach to meet up my old buddy Katrina. Some of you may know, Kat and I used to shoot videos together in Boston for DietHealth back in 2006-2008 before she moved out west. Katrina is now one half of Tone It Up.
We walked along the beach and grabbed lunch and a cocktail at The Standard. She had a glass of white wine and I ordered my new favorite drink, the Paleo Paloma.
For lunch we split the beets and burrata and then chowed down on kale salads with wheat berries, grapes, pumpkin seeds and grilled chicken.
It was so good to spend time together. Early in my career, Katrina made me realize that even though we are in a similar field, as women, we should work together and support each other. For this reason, we’ve always remained honest and good friends.
I’m about to run to catch my flight but wanted to share a weekend update with you guys. Can’t wait to sleep in my own bed tonight but miss these CA beaches already!
Wow beautiful views for your run!
Cheers on the marathon! Looking forward to hearing about your training 🙂
Running by the beach is the best! It’s so beautiful, the times passes more quickly!
I’m training for the Chicago Marathon too-it’ll be my second! I’d love to grab a post race drink and photo with you 🙂
If I am still standing, would love to!! It’s my first eek
I had to Google Paleo paloma after seeing that drink!
I love that you support each other. I have the hardest time with female friends, but I’ve gotten much better at it. Instead of thinking of everyone as competition, I think of it as… we all offer something different.
See you in Chicago!
I didn’t realize you were running too!! Yay. I haven’t booked my hotel yet. If you have a suggestion, let me know!!
awesome! i ran chicago in 2010--flat, fast and great crowds. the temperature is either wicked hot or cold though--be prepared for anything!
If I could run by the beach, I would run freaking 12 miles all the time. HAHA! Not really, but hey, I wouldn’t miss a long run! I had the chance to run along the sidewalk by the beach and it was just so amazing…that breeze from the ocean is the best!
Congrats on signing up for the Chicago!
That’s so cool you guys are old friends. I love the Tone it Up girls!
Sarah, which sunglasses are those?
