Natural Beauty Drug Store Haul

In honor of breast cancer awareness month, I decided to share my top non toxic picks from the drugstore beauty department. Drug stores are known for having affordable cosmetics, but not so much the natural kind. I had to really search my local CVS to find these! They are not next to the regular crap which was odd to me.

Why should you use natural skin care products?

Our skin absorbs most of what we put on it so when you place parabens, fragrance, phthalates and other crap on it, that shit goes into your blood stream. There have been studies that suggest these chemicals can potentially cause cancer, disrupt your hormones and have a very negative impact on your overall well being once they get inside. It’s easy to think only in the present when you are young, but hitting 30 last spring made me re-evaluate what I’m using on my face and body.

This weekend I threw out a bunch of products that I knew were toxic (which is hard for a self proclaimed cosmetics horder).

Products Featured Above:

Dr Bronner Magic Soap Bar – $4

Physician’s Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara – $11

Physician’s Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Pressed Powder – $7

Yes to Grapefruit CC Cream – $10

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm – $5

Prices are based off Amazon – not CVS which was more expensive! You can check them all out at my Amazon Beauty Store.

So in honor of breast cancer awareness month, I challenge you to throw out one cosmetic or skincare product that you know is bad for you and buy one natural or organic replacement!

If you happen to live near an Ulta, they have the Yes To Grapefruit CC Cream on sale for $10. If you get their emails, you probably have a $3.50/off 10 purchase… So that means you can get the CC Cream for $6.50 which is half price of what you normally find it. Just a heads up!

I love this so much! I don’t have a Trader Joes or Whole foods anywhere near me so I love I have options at the local stop… that’s 15 miles away. The joys of country living 🙂

I really try to stick with natural products too. At CVS and drug stores they can be hard to find. I recently purchased that mascara and really like it. Good product for the price. I also recently switched to natural deordorant which was really hard to find. I took your suggeston to try the Thai crystal and it works very well. Thank you for the tips!

I know that most Yes To and Burts’s Bees products have fragrance and don’t score well on the Environmental Working Group’s cosmetics site. Did you choose these products because they’re better than the alternative? It can be so hard to decide what to use when even the “natural” products are toxic.

Yeah, EWG is an awesome resource. It was really hard to find products that were rated low at CVS or any drug store. I chose the specific Burt’s Bees lip balm on purpose because it was rated lowest. As for the CC cream, lesser evil theory.

I’m glad you shared this. I only use/blog about natural products. I don’t think people realize how much nastiness is in makeup and beauty products!!!
