This weekend, I planned my sister’s bachelorette party in Newport, Rhode Island. It was not as stressful as the wedding shower, but I’m excited that all I really need to do now before the wedding is write my speech and my dress tailored! What a relief.
I wanted to make my own cake for the occasion and have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to make Chocolate Covered Katie’s Deep Dish Cookie Pie. One of the bridesmaids has celiac’s disease, so it made sense. I made the recipe according to Katie’s site but made two round cake pans instead. Using a knife, I made a cut out of what was meant to resemble a penis because when else am I going to have the opportunity? I placed it on top and decorated with my own frosting.
I used 1 cup of powdered sugar (aka confectioners sugar), 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla, 2 tablespoons of almond milk and 2 melted blue white chocolate disks for coloring. I mixed it together with a whisk and went to town. After frosting, I needed to refrigerate the cake to prevent the icing from melting since my apartment was 80F thanks to the lack of air conditioning.
After the cake was made and ready to go, it was time to head down to Newport, Rhode Island! My sisters snorted when she saw me because I looked “so preppy.” I liked my outfit!
Friday night we went to dinner at a restaurant called The Red Parrot. It was perfect for what we were looking for. I got a Firecracker Shrimp salad which came with shrimp skewers and asian like salad complete with crunchy noodles, pineapple and mandarin oranges. We finished the night listening to a local band at the Rhino bar.
On Saturday, I woke up ready to sight see and fit in some exercise. Elizabeth and I went for a run along the famed Newport Cliff Walk. We managed to fit in 5 miles and see some spectacular mansions.
In high school, I went to a prom at the Breakers mansion. It was probably one of the coolest experiences but being 16 at the time, I don’t think I fully appreciated it. Can you imagine if this was your families summer home?!
The run felt amazing. I love sweating after a night of cocktails. My only complaint is the lack of awareness people seem to always have on popular fitness routes. There were plenty of runners along the path but yet, walking four people across the pathway without room on either side for anyone else to pass got annoying. This is probably one of my biggest pet peeves in Boston as well along the Cambridge Street Bridge.
Afterwards, I made oatmeal in a mason jar and showered to get ready for the ABC beach. I have never been to a beach that was more packed. It was insane. We picked a spot away from the crowds as much as we could.
We went up to the ABC club for a drink and I got some raw bar for lunch. I’m addicted lately. After the beach, we played games in our hotel room and ordered pizza from Crazy Dough’s. I made sangria with pineapple, lemons, and oranges with Sauvingon Blanc, Triple Sec, NuNaturals Orange Stevia and Soda Water served in a mason jar with a penis straw I ordered from The House of Bachelorette. I also got some pink beads, shot glasses and a sash for my sister to wear. The cookie pie was also a big hit among the group.
After dinner and silly games opening up lingerie, we headed to the Pelham for 80’s cover band music. It was a blast and the night was a success. I can’t wait for the wedding in just a few weeks! My sister was a great sport wearing a candy necklace and veil with her Bride To Be sash. If you are looking for Bachelorette supplies last minute, the site I ordered the stuff from was great and quick. It was delivered within 4 days and had the cheapest prices I found online.
