T-4 days before my favorite holiday, the 4th of July! This weekend, I continued my marathon training. I ran 11 miles at an easy pace along the beaches in my town. At mile 7, I stopped by one of the beaches with snack bar and grabbed a cup of water to have with my energy gel.
I picked up the pace for a final mile making it a total of 12. I was excited to be done and it was still before 11am. I did not map out my run but instead just did sort of an out and back type route, very uncommon for me. I need loops but I liked the new scenery.
Pre run, I had a banana with some coconut almond butter and my Vega pre workout Energizer. This stuff is delicious. It has added sugar but tasted delicious. I looked for it at Whole Foods last night but didn’t see it. I’ll have to ask my mom where she bought it.
I enjoyed the remainder of my Saturday relaxing on the beach and treated myself to two Leinenkugel Summer Shandys.
I woke up Sunday morning, starving. Since it a rest day, I made myself a fancy bowl of oatmeal with Paleonola, blueberries and a scoop of coconut butter.
My mother is always reading my blog, so when I stay with her on the weekends in the summer, it’s funny how many items she has in her pantry that I’ve featured on my blog. Paleonola is “granola” without the grains, so basically toasted nuts with spices and a little honey.
Sunday, we relaxed again at the beach. I started reading The One and Only by Emily Griffin. It was a very mellow weekend, just what I wanted and needed after working most of last.
This is a short week since the 4th of July is coming up. I’m debating if I should do my long run on Friday before I party on the beach or plan to do it hungover on Saturday… me thinks Friday morning. Any experienced marathon running advice for this newbie?
Definitely do it on Friday! Better to get it done than to regret you never did it sooner!
Awesome job on that 12 miles though!
Ha I would definitely do it friday! Running hungover is like running with the flu!
Loved the Emily Giffin book, although I know it’s gotten mixed reviews. Would love to hear what you think!
actually curious to see what you think of the book
“One and Only”
Also wanted to let you know I am on week one of your 4 week tri plan. I have been training a while and had a few setbacks in the past 6 weeks with and endoscopy confirming a celiac diagnosis and then a second surgery 10 days ago in my abdomen. I am now allowed to workout again and have 4 weeks until my first tri. I saw your plan and figured it looked fun to get me back in the game! I will let you know how it goes!
So happy to see your marathon training is going well!! DEFINITELY Friday morning, I did one of my marathon training runs hungover and it was awful. I htink i had to stop like every 2 miles. Plus, looking forward to all the fun activites may make you run faster!
Awesome Sarah -- I’m stoked you are training for a marathon! I definitely agree that you should get your run out of the way Friday morning. You’ll be able to enjoy the rest of the day that much more knowing you’ve gotten your training out of the way. Just be careful to replenish post-run before you start boozing. Try an epsom salt bath and drink either coconut water or whatever your post-run hydration of choice is. I’ve been drinking “The Right Stuff” electrolyte replacement with water after long runs (especially on hot days). It’s much higher in salt, so it’s only meant for after 60 minutes or more of work, but it tastes pretty good and it helps me recover. Hope you have an awesome holiday!
