DIY Natural Winter Mask For Dry and Acne Prone Skin

Every winter my skin gets so dry. In the past when I would break out in the winter, I would blame it on oily skin. But after regularly going for facials, I learned that my winter breakouts were because my skin was too damn dry! I needed more moisture. To save money, I cut back on getting facials and have been using home DIY remedies for dry and acne prone skin; however, I still visit my dermatology specialist every two months.

This mask is one of my favorites because I have the ingredients regularly on hand and they are affordable!

DIY Hydrating & Clearing Face Mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 Banana
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1tbsp coconut oil

Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend well. Place in the fridge to chill for an hour or 20-30 minutes in the freezer. Layer on face and leave for 10-15 minutes. Wipe off with water and a towel. Pat skin dry! Save extra for a mask next week! Should keep for 7-10 days – especially since you are not eating it.

Benefits of the mask:

Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants and healthy acids which condition and hydrate your skin as well as helps prevent premature aging. This mask helps keep your skin clear because it helps remove dirt, unclog pores and is antimicrobial which helps kill bacteria that causes breakouts. In addition, it helps balance skin pH levels keeping it in a healthy state looking radiant and glowing.

One YouTube commenter suggested that some people do breakout from coconut oil so if you are acne prone, try a small area before applying it to your entire face.

If you have turmeric on hand, you can also add a teaspoon to your mask for extra acne fighting capabilities. Tumeric fights acne, brightens and lightens dull skin and evens out skin tone!

Try it your self and let me know how it goes. In the video, my mask looks chunky and doesn’t go one totally smooth because I had to heat up my honey and made it less sticky which made it hard to get a good mask appearance. If you apply the mask lying down when it is chilled, it works great!

I haven’t used a mask as part of my skin regime for a while. This looks really interesting. Thanks for sharing!

This looks great! I was just thinking how I have been breaking out recently. All I need is the coconut oil but I will make sure to give it a try next week. I’ll let you know how it works out. Thanks for sharing!

This is amazing -- I live in California, but my skin is flaky because I was in Boston a week ago, and it got so dried out! I am going to give this a shot today. I LOVE the video by the way! Did you have special lighting in the background?

    Happy Saturday!

This mask looks great! I need to get on a more regular mask-ing schedule! I tend to stick to it for a few weeks and then it fades! Thank you!

I have the worst dry skin especially from running and skiing in this cold, windy air. I could use this mask!

Could I use almond oil or argan oil instead as I don’t have coconut oil?
