I’ve been planning this post for the past 4 months. Now, it’s finally here and I don’t really know how to begin so I’m just going to come right out and say it.
I’m going to be gaining at least 25 lbs over the next 4.5 months because the “Fit Family” is officially expanding! Little Fit is estimated to arrive January 3rd which means I’m 20 weeks pregnant.
We already know the sex, the picture below was taken at that ultrasound but I’ll reveal it in another post with old wives tales and whether they were true or not.
I explain a lot of things in my new video today but here are a few details you may or may not care to know:
- I ran the Boston Marathon technically 3 weeks pregnant which explains why I never could get in the zone and couldn’t wait until I was finished.
- We found out on the earliest day technically possible for at home tests while on vacation in Budapest. Yes, I took a pregnancy test in Hungary and it was fun googling directions and results since there were no English translations. I just knew because I was craving french fries at 10pm – just 2 hours after eating dinner. This craving should have been for something chocolate! I took this selfie to remember the moment I knew I was pregnant.
We found a food truck in Budapest selling french fries and cheese. SCORE. Then Roomie documented the moment HE knew I was pregnant. I didn’t actually take the test until the following morning but our suspicions were in fact confirmed.
- In many of the SFit promos I’m 17 weeks pregnant, as well as with every video I’ve shot since the marathon.
- This baby is already one well-traveled nugget. It has been to Prague, Vienna, Budapest, LA, Las Vegas, Mexico twice, Grand Cayman, St Thomas, St Kitts, Virginia, Newport, Santa Barbara, Maine and more!
- So yes, that too means I went to Vegas for a bachelorette party sober…
After being together for almost 8 years, Roomie and I knew that 2015 would be the year that our family would grow. We are not changing out last names to Fit for those that still haven’t realized that post was a joke. In the future we may walk down the aisle but as of right now, spending $$$ of our own money on a party is low on the list of priorities. Starting a family with my best friend and love of my life was and at 31 years old we knew it was time.
We told our family right away but waited until 12 weeks to start telling our friends. I was outed at the 4th of July not because I wasn’t drinking but because my girlfriends wanted to know why on earth I was eating a bagel. Instead of beer, I sipped on kids Honest lemonade pouches and water.
We wanted to tell a few other friends in person that we would not see until the end July and coupled with my hectic travel, today was really the first day we could get a video uploaded to YouTube in August. I also was hoping to show a bigger bump for a fun picture.
Above was taken at 12 weeks and below is now. I’ve gained about 10 lbs since Budapest which means I’m right on track for a healthy weight gain of 25-35 lbs.
Watch the video for more details. I’ll be doing a follow up video since I’m sure many of you will have questions. You can leave them down below.
My good friends know how much I loved Britney Spears from 1999-2007 so of course I had to pretend that I was going to copy that viral announcement video.
Also – I no longer will be referring to Nick as Roomie… RIP. My family suggested, “Nick” but we think that is boring, so we decided on NickFit since so many of you actually thought we were narcissistic enough to do that in the first place.
ย

So very very happy for you and I’m still laughing about the name change.
Wow Sarah! What a surprise! I have been following you since 2007 when you were with DietHealth and making those videos with Bethenny. You look incredible--would have never guessed. xoxox
Congrats Sarah (& roomie)!! I can’t wait to follow your journey! I just had my second baby about a month ago, I’m so impressed you were able to get so much done during your first trimester, I think I spent 75% of my awake time in bed rest or sick, ha.
I was hoping “Roomie” would become “BabyDaddy” but I guess NickFit makes sense too ๐
hahaha if i didn’t think it was self deprecating to me it would have been.
Aww, yay! Congrats!! I’d love to hear you explain, in your own words, why you prioritized expanding your family over marriage. I think this is GREAT. I’m the same age as you, and many of my girlfriends are rushing into marriage b/c they want to have children, even when they themselves have voiced that they feel ready for children but not marriage. I’d really like to hear your thoughts on what influenced your decision. Thanks!
great question! We would have to pay for the wedding ourselves and the time and $$ expense of it is pretty unappealing. We’ve known for a few years that this would be our plan of action. When I was younger I wanted a wedding but now, it seems like a really stressful process to plan over the course of a year, that lasts one night. I don’t have the time to plan and I don’t want to spend all the money that I’ve worked hard to earn to have a party for one night. I would elope but I also don’t want to regret missing out on having a wedding -- so I’m waiting until I’ve decided what I want. We are in a committed relationship, we both have life insurance policies and will amend those with the baby coming and everything. I feel like I have security and for some that is what marriage brings. Also, I want three children (I say that now having none…) and I want to be done by the time I’m 38 so unless I were to have Irish Twins, the time to start felt right. I’ll give birth a couple months before I’m 32 years old.
Congratulations and good for you for knowing what you want! It took me way too long to understand that “the wedding” is just an event and “marriage” is real life!
Love this! I am the same way except that I would want the marriage just for the health insurance and tax implications.
I’ve actually been on his insurance for 4 years and we actually would not get benefits for tax purposes to my knowledge. From my own research it looks like we’d owe more ๐ I’m self employed so it’s a little different
Wow, I’m so excited for you! I’ve been following you since the early DietHealth days on YouTube, so knowing you “virtually” for so long makes me feel extra happy for you and NickFit!
Congratulations!! I just had my first baby in March the day after my 32nd birthday! It’s quite the ride! Enjoy pregnancy!
Major congratulations, Sarah! This is so exciting! You’re glowing, and it’s just beautiful! You’re going to make a spectacular FITmom, and I couldn’t be more happy for and proud of you for living life your way! CONGRATS!
So exciting, Sarah! Congratulations to the expanding Fit family! ๐
Congrats!!! I’ve been following your blog/videos for a couple of years so I am literally so excited to see pictures of you with “Roomie”!! I’m excited to follow along your journey with Nick and the little one on the way!
Oh my goodness CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! You are going to be a beautiful, beautiful mama! We are due 10/18, and in the single week countdown! January will be here before you know it, I promise it’s going to fly by!! Can’t wait to follow along!
Sarah! I am so happy for you! You look great, I’m very excited to follow along! Congrats again to you and Mr. Fit ๐
Congratulations to the Fit family!!!! I would love to know how you modified workouts in your first trimester and how you kept healthy with all the food cravings pregnancy can bring. So happy for you!! ๐
Congratulations Sarah! We all welcome your new baby into the Fit family with open arms!
Congrats! LOVE this post ๐
Amazing news! it’s like a friend has just told me she is pregnant. Congratulations Sarah xo
Congratulations to you both! I would love to hear your opinion on trying to balance healthy eating, pregnancy cravings and exercise to make sure you have a healthy pregnancy. Also, how do you deal with body image issues while pregnant.
Gaining weight has been an awkward struggle. Nick keeps telling me to “let it hang out” but for me -- that’s just bad posture so he keeps thinking I’m sucking it in. I don’t think I am but seeing the scale creep up is definitely weird but hasn’t kept me from indulging in ice cream and my other favorite sweets. My biggest craving was ceasar salad oddly enough. I’ll do a longer post on this topic though because it’s a great one!
Congratulations, Sarah! I think “Fit” should be your child’s middle name. It’s only right. We have SarahFit, Nick Fit, and now BabyFit. Your pregnancy belly is so adorable.
I’m 31 weeks today and have been doing your “slim and sculpted” a lot as my pregnancy arms workout! Last week I even upped my weights. It’s a good one for preggos- just an FYI. ๐
I love it!
Congrats to bot of you such an exciting time. I’m expecting my first granddaughter in Nov and we are over the moon with excitement. Here’s to a healthy happy baby for both of us!!
Congratulations! We’re about 4 weeks behind you, so I’ll have to use you as more guidance on how to stay fit during a pregnancy. Hooray babies!
Congratulations to you and NickFit! You look fantastic too! So I ran the Boston Marathon unknowingly pregnant a few years ago and missed my sub 4-hour goal. When I found out a week later that I was expecting, I just blamed the pregnancy for missed goal. Well you totally shattered my excuse!! You are such a champ, and I look forward following the Fit family journey!
Awwww! I was miserable the entire 4 hours. I cried when I finished bc I was so happy it was over and that I did it. I still can’t believe I broke 4 hours. Did you give birth the first week or so of January? Did you run throughout your pregnancy?
SO excited for you!! Id love to hear how your diet has changed (if at all). Did you gain weight / have cravings in the very beginning or has it happened more in the 2nd trimester. How have your workouts changed or have they stayed the same. I’m really excited to follow this new journey in your life!! ๐
So happy for you Sarah! Congrats!!!
Congratulations!!! I thought you might be pregnant when I saw that photo of you and NickFit from that last resort. The first thought that came into my head was “that dress looks weird -- she looks pregnant in it. And BOOBIES!!!” My kids are now pre-teen and teen. It’s great, even though I would probably get caught if I did a doping test. The amount of testosterone in the air at home is overwhelming.
Anyway -- to my point. I gained a LOT of weight with both my kids -- I was over 100kgs (that would be over 200 pounds) with each of them. I was huge, i looked liked i had swallowed a small car, especially with number two as my abs were stretched from the first one. My abs also separated, I have a small hole around my belly button where they still are separated. Is it possible to shorten muscles by working out? Or do i have to live with this? Surgery? Perhaps this can be a topic for a video or blog post, as I do believe I’m not the only one with this.
Congratulation !!! Would love to hear the story about how you met nick and how you knew that he is the love of your life !!!
Not a long story -- my best friend went to college with him. We met at a mutual friend’s birthday party at a bar in Boston when I was 23 years old!
Congrats Sarah!! I’m also one of your subscribers/readers who has been following you for years! I am no where close to ever being pregnant or pregnant adjacent haha but I’m excited for this kind of addition to your topics of discussion. If I ever do have a baby I’d want to be one of those fit moms that is able to still workout during so this will be interesting.
One thing I’m curious about is that recommended weight gain by your doctor. Obviously I know weight gain during pregnancy is inevitable but is it because you are an athlete with a low BF% that’s recommended you gain that much? Like I said totally clueless about all this but really excited to read about it.
And also hell yeah for running a marathon while in the early stages but bummer you couldn’t have enjoyed some good European and Caribbean beer/cocktails!
Depending on your starting weight, they recommend different amounts. If you are at a healthy BMI, they suggest 25-35 lbs for singleton babies. If you are underweight, they suggest more and if you are overweight they suggest less. If you are overweight, I think it’s recommended 15-25 lbs. I hate the BMI for a measure of fitness and body fat but I’m really not sure how it effects the growing of a baby inside. I have a lower body fat percentage than most people at the same weight as me so if I go a little over, I’m not going to stress but hoping to keep it between the healthy range. After reading a lot of research, there’s more harm to not gaining enough weight than gaining too much weight (obviously within reason). So… I would err on the side of overdoing it than restricting yourself and trying hard not to gain too much and end up harming your baby because you are so concerned with not gaining weight, ya know? If I hit 40 or 45 lbs I’ll be cool with it. My mom gained 60 with me!
Congrats!! I love your blog and your workouts and I think it’s great that such a healthy well-balanced person will be bringing a baby into the world!! So happy for you and Nick, congrats and enjoy it!!
Awww YAY!! So, so happy for you, Sarah! Congrats to you both!! ๐
Thank you Courtney! I read you blog post from last month and my heart broke for you guys. Thinking of you and hope you are enjoying the new house.
Congrats Sarah and Nick!

Congratulations Sarah! It’s very exciting, so happy for both of you! Looking forward to updates on your journey!! xoxo
Wahoo so excited! I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and can’t wait to see all of you new mom workout tips!!
Sarah! I am so excited for you! I have followed you for years and just had my first baby 2 months ago (at 30)! I would be thrilled if your content changed a bit and was geared towards fitness pre/post baby. .Im back in my jeans but have a considerable muffin top which I didnt have before. So far just doing long walks and planks.
Enjoy your 2nd trimester, it’s the best one! PS. YOGAAAAA is your best friend now! Again congrats!
Congrats!!! But, okay — in addition to retiring “roomie,” you have to stop making fun of me (and anyone else) who thought you changed your last name. Seriously. I’m over it. ๐
CONGRATULATIONS SARAH, NICK and LITTLE FIT!! ๐ I am very happy for you all and wish you all the best!!!
I’ve read your blog for a while now… But never commented. I just wanted to say congratulations! How exciting for you & your partner. ๐ Best wishes!
Congrats!! I’m also pregnant, 13 weeks I always love seeing other fit women’s experience with pregnancy so I feel more “normal” about all the changes I’m going through and altering the workouts as need be. Keep up the inspiring work!
Congratulations! I’m so excited and happy for you!
I love you and this post ๐ Congratulations!!!
Thanks Monica ๐
Congratulation !!!
Oh.. this might sound lame (sorry really not my intention) but I actually thought that when I saw the other post (your Santa Babara cheat meal post) but you know -- its not polite to ask if you are not 100% correct.
I hope it all goes well and baby is having a blast in there.
Congratulations once more.
Kind regards Julie
Hahaha yeah… My diet has been pretty ice cream heavy and in that dress I totally felt self conscious of the bump! It was the first time I actually couldn’t keep it in.
haha haha,….. I totally get your point. With both my kids I kind of craved chocolate (more than usual) and other sweet things.
You look gorgeous !
Wasn’t it kind of a weird feeling that you can’t “suck it in”? Ha ha.. I mean in a good way. It feels so strange when you can do it anymore but also very nice at the same time. Such a strange feeling ๐
I hope all the best for you all.
CONGRATULATIONS! I’ve been following since 07 or 08 I think, so super excited for you! ๐ I teach fitness class and taught my last class 9 days before my son was born…staying active helped so much both physically and mentally. My son is about to turn 1 now and it’s true what everyone says…it’s such a big love you, just can’t imagine ๐ Huge congrats!!
Congratulations Sarah!!!! Your already glowing ๐ I wish you all the best in your pregnancy!
Congratulations Sarah! You’ll make an amazing mother. I just took your class this morning and you announced it….I am finally getting through my emails and ahhh! I found your update in my inbox.

Congratulations Sara!! So happy for you!! You should totally do videos on how do you stay fit and healthy and all the related good stuff during pregnancy ๐ ๐
At the same time- Take it easy!!! We will understand ๐ I noticed how much you stressed on the fact that you have been constantly making videos and will be continuing to do so. Chill! ๐ Enjoy and take care!
Congrats Sarah! So excited for you!!! Its fun to follow someone else who is fitness professional and their pregnancy jouney! I was teaching group ex until 34 weeks and worked out for 2-3 times a week after until birth! My peanut is a little over 2 weeks old. <3
This is amazing news! I finally had the time to read and see your announcement. I first saw it on Instagram and commented right away there. Once again congrats!! ๐
