What I Eat In A Day Pregnancy Edition 2018

I love seeing other people’s What I Eat In A Day posts for no other reason than why we like reality TV. You would think my diet would be very different pregnant but it’s really not these days.

I kept meaning to do a What I Eat In A Day vlog last month but kept feeling like my diet wasn’t good enough to share. I know you guys want real like but the few times I’ve shared a not perfect eating day, people on YouTube leave comments like, “WTF aren’t you supposed to be healthy?” I practice that 80/20 rule, 80% of what I eat is nutritious and 20% is reserved for treats like ice cream or glass of wine. Some days it is not that balanced and other days, I rarely use my 20%.

Whatever I decide to eat, I do not count calories. I try to focus on eating nutrient dense foods. I used to count calories when I wanted to lose weight for photo shoots and it worked but drove me to act like a crazy person. I practice intuitive eating where I try to actually listen to what my body wants. Hungry? I eat. Despite trying to eat this way for years, I was only able to actually do it successfully after I got pregnant with Tommy.

The last thing I want to say about this is that when I got pregnant, I started eating like a normal person like pizza, sandwiches, rice and cookies when I wanted one without the guilt. I stopped eating anything artificial. A big one for me to give up was gum! It was the only artificial sweetened I was still consuming. I swear it makes you think you are hungry when you are not actually hungry.

That being said, here is an example of what I ate this particular day while pregnant

Most days for breakfast I have toast or an english muffin with peanut butter or almond butter. I love adding fresh fruit as well. I buy Iggy’s Whole Wheat Sourdough or Ezekiel English Muffins. Oatmeal has also been in the mix, steel cut made with water and then I add in fruit and nut butter.

I always have a cup of coffee, shot of espresso or a matcha latte. I make it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a dried matcha packet from Trader Joe’s.

I usually have a snack in between or I just eat a very early lunch and it varies. I don’t eat lunch at home a ton because I never know what I’m going to be craving and don’t want to waste food by buying things at the grocery store that we throw out because I no longer want them.

I grab sandwiches and salads at Flour Bakery a lot because it’s on my way home from the gym or daycare. I love their chopped Greek salad as well as their seasonal Turkey sandwiches and cauliflower melt. I did not eat turkey with Tommy but this pregnancy I do because I really think there are foods with a higher risk of listeria than Turkey like raw fruit and vegetables which I’m not going to stop eating.

My lunch snack is often tons of fruit, a bar like the new Kind Protein Bars, love those, or a treat I share with Tommy after daycare like ice cream or a cookie from Flour.

Fomu is vegan ice cream and when I get the season flavors with berries, I feel like I’m being nutritious by eating antioxidants. The ice cream is coconut based so I also feel like I’m eating some healthy fats as opposed to saturated from a crap dairy source. Flour makes cookies and other baked goods using whole grains and I try to buy those when I can like their Double Chocolate Chip. You seriously can’t taste the difference in the recipes after they switched to better flour. Dark Chocolate is also loaded with antioxidants!

Dinner varies! In the video above, we made BBQ chicken on a steel cast iron pan on the stove with corn, asparagus, and roasted sweet potatoes.

We usually have pizza, home made or take out once a week as well as home made tacos. We switch it up what kind we have like vegetarian or chicken. We also are big into salads with veggie burgers for a quick dinner when we aren’t super hungry (because we had ice cream at 4 pm… )

This week, I also made little sliders as I have low iron. I ate these with a side of green beans and a few potato chips.

However, healthy these may or may not seem, when we travel, I eat whatever I want. In the cape over Memorial day, I totally splurged on Ice Cream Sundaes and Lobster rolls. It will be an interesting last few weeks being pregnant on the cape. It’s a good thing my favorite spots usually have huge long lines to deter my cravings.

I’ve been loving fruit for dessert lately like cherries or strawberries with coconut whipped cream. It tastes like cool whip minus the chemical ingredients! I highly recommend.

I haven’t had many cravings lately other than fruit and ice cream which I blame on the season. If you like this type of video let me know on Instagram or YouTube!
